Every child has a chance to shine

At Duke of Kent School, performing arts help every child build confidence, creativity and self-expression. Through music, drama and dance, pupils develop communication skills, resilience and the confidence to perform in a supportive environment where every child is encouraged to take part.

Music is part of the curriculum from Nursery to Year 2, with weekly specialist lessons led by our Director of Music. Children also enjoy classroom music, instrumental opportunities including cello and violin, and the chance to perform in our annual Easter Concert. Individual instrumental lessons are available across a wide range of instruments.

Drama forms a very important part of Duke of Kent School's Pre-prep. Opportunities to perform begin with role-play in Nursery and Class Assemblies in Year 1 and 2.  A whole department Christmas production is written especially for the children and showcases their singing, dancing and acting talents. 

Dance is a weekly favourite, led by our specialist dance teacher. The year culminates in our much loved Summer Dance Show, where pupils bring well-known stories to life through movement and performance for family and friends. Recent previous titles include: Peter Pan, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Wizard of Oz.
