Pre-Prep Performing Arts
Performing Arts at Duke of Kent Pre-prep provide every child with the opportunity to build confidence and to experience success in performance.
Music starts in Pre-prep in Nursery. All the children have weekly sessions in the Music Department and further sessions which take place in the classroom with the teachers. Children are provided the opportunity to practise the cello in Reception, Year 1 and the violin in Year 2. Pupils can also sign up for 1:1 peripatetic lessons across the full range of instruments. An Easter Concert gives all the children, from Nursery to Year 2, a chance to perform in front of an audience.
Drama forms a very important part of Duke of Kent Pre-prep. Opportunities to perform begin with role-play in Nursery and Class Assemblies in Year 1 and 2. A whole department Christmas production is written especially for the children and showcases their singing, dancing and acting talents.
All the children have a weekly dance lesson. These are an extremely popular part of the week and our dedicated dance teacher guides the children towards the Summer Term Dance Show, a particular highlight of the year for many parents and grandparents. Our annual Dance show sees the children re-tell a well-known story through the narrative of dance. Recent previous titles include: Peter Pan, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Wizard of Oz.
