COMBINED SCHOOLS CHARITY LOCKDOWN CHOIR

In the first half of the Spring Term pupils from our choirs contributed to a charity virtual choir, recording all their parts from home during lockdown.

Every March the Rotary Club of Guildford District organises a school concert, held at the GLive venue in Guildford, Surrey with pupils from four local schools - Christ's College Guildford, Duke of Kent School, George Abbot School and Prior's Field School.

Due to the national lockdown restrictions the concert was cancelled this year so instead, pupils from each of the schools' choirs recorded a version of the Coldplay song 'Fix You' to raise money for one of the Rotary supported charities - Challengers. Challengers supports local disabled children through their Preschool, Play and Youth schemes across the South East. They support over 1,400 children and provide vital respite to so many families who are often isolated and excluded. At their purpose-built centres, disabled children get the opportunity to try new activities, make friends, relax and just be themselves. Your support will help them continue to break down the barriers to play and provide a lifeline of support to disabled young people and families.

During remote learning ninety pupils from the four schools managed to learn, entirely on their own, all their parts, record themselves singing and send the videos in. Forty of these were from Duke of Kent School and it was also our Director of Music Mr Rye who edited all the schools' videos into a finished virtual choir.

The wonderful final project can be seen below.
