OLIVER TWIST - THE PLAY

Our annual Year 8 and 9 play this year was Oliver Twist.
In the penultimate week of the Summer Term, the school Performing Arts hall was transformed into Victorian London for our annual Years 8 and 9 production - always a straight play. From the moment the audience entered the space, they were immersed into the world of Neil Bartlett’s dark and unflinching stage adaptation of Oliver Twist.
The cast and crew were wonderful and performed Dickens characters with honesty, and a real commitment to tell this well-known story. Through their enthusiasm and commitment they were able to produce truly impressive and captivating performances, bringing the dark, disturbing and diverse world of London's underbelly to life. The pupils dealt with a complex plot and tricky staging with real maturity and professionalism, demonstrating their unity and bravery as an ensemble; especially in how they communicated the struggle between good and evil of the characters they portrayed. They were all so professional, funny and utterly delightful to direct - and the rapturous applause was a testament to the wonderful acting on display.
