Following the announcement last academic year that our Head, Sue Knox, would become Chair of the Independent Schools Association (ISA), Sue has now officially stepped into the role for 2026/27.

The ISA is a community of more than 800 independent schools across the UK, and as Chair, Sue will play an important role in representing this community and helping to shape the Association’s strategy and priorities. Last week, she chaired her first meeting of the ISA Board, bringing together representatives from across the Association to begin shaping its strategy for the next five years.

Sue’s appointment is a significant achievement and a wonderful opportunity for Duke of Kent School. It also brings benefits to our whole school community, providing an opportunity for us to share our own experience and expertise while learning from the many other schools within the ISA network.

One of the greatest strengths of the ISA is its collaborative approach. Through professional development, conferences and the sharing of ideas and best practice, schools and school leaders have the opportunity to learn from one another and continually develop the education and support they provide to their pupils.

Sue’s role as Chair means that Duke of Kent School has a voice within this wider community. She will be able to share the experience and ideas of our school with hundreds of other independent schools, while also bringing new perspectives and examples of excellent practice back to Duke of Kent School.

The ISA also provides fantastic opportunities for pupils, with a programme of music, art and sporting competitions throughout the year. These events allow children to challenge themselves, celebrate their achievements and meet pupils from other ISA schools.

Sue’s year as Chair therefore represents much more than a prestigious leadership role. It strengthens Duke of Kent School’s connection with the wider independent schools community and creates opportunities for our pupils and staff to benefit from the sharing of ideas, expertise and experiences.
