At Duke of Kent School we value our excellent partnership with parents. We do our best to ensure that the relationship between home and school gives all possible support to the development of each pupil.
Regular communication is vital. We aim to keep you fully informed of your child's progress and we do not wait for parents evenings or reports to share concerns or to let you know about successes. Equally, we need to hear from you about what motivates your child, how friendships are developing, what he or she is enjoying or may be finding difficult. We ask that parents keep the form teacher informed about any issues at home that may affect work, attitude or behaviour.
Every academic year starts with Curriculum Meetings, in which the programme for the year is explained and parents have a chance to ask any questions they may have. We have an annual schedule of Progress Meetings (Parents Evenings) at which teachers meet parents to discuss every aspect of academic and personal development. Written reports are available to parents at least once a year (Autumn Half Term and Summer for Prep School, Summer for Pre-prep and Senior School). Pupils attend Progress Meetings from Year 6 upwards so that they can participate actively in the discussion about what they have achieved and what needs to happen next.
Weekly fixtures, home and away, followed by Match Tea, give parents a chance to support their children and get to know one another. In addition to our many concerts, plays and galas, we also have regular assemblies open to parents, grandparents and family friends and where possible open our guest speaker programme to the whole School community. Workshops and discussions on important areas such as pastoral support and e-safety are also offered, giving up to date information on how best to support children and teenagers of all ages.
A lively and popular parents' group (PADoK - Parents Association, Duke of Kent) with class "reps" in every year group arranges social events and puts families in touch with one another. Please note that this is a fund raising and social group and does not represent parents in the management of the School. Parents are always encouraged to come directly to any member of the Senior Leadership Team with any ideas, queries, concerns or comments they may have.
