After writing with fire last week, this week found our intrepid scientists extracting DNA from fish eggs.DNA is of course the blueprint for all cells, with up to 2 metres of it tucked into nearly every cell in our bodies.

They discovered that a pinch of salt, a little

detergent a few drops of pineapple juice

and a healthy dose of ice cold alcohol

were all it took to allow delicate strands

of DNA to be separated from the source

material and observed in the test tube.

Next week sees us carrying out a dissection of pig hearts - not for the faint hearted!
