Children with 'Statements'
If a pupil in the school has a full 'statement' of special needs, that is a pupil who needs significant support in order to access the school curriculum, the school, will offer, (or arrange with parents to provide,) the appropriate support in line with the statement of educational need, which means the pupil will have equal access to the curriculum in line with his/her peers, and if necessary the curriculum will be adapted in line with the statement. The school will hold regular reviews of progress with the pupil and parents, and any external agencies as necessary. The Headmaster will be responsible for the overall pastoral care and welfare of the pupil and will oversee the regular contact with parents.
English as an additional language
Where a pupil comes within the purview of our EAL (English as an additional language) coordinator, that pupil will be given support by both teachers and classroom assistants in order to access the curriculum by developing his/her acquisition of the English language. The school will provide means by which EAL pupils will access the curriculum, by deploying the language skills of particular staff, and/or encouraging other pupils, for whom the first language is also appropriate, to support. External agencies will be involved as necessary. The Headmaster maintains a close liason with the parents, staff and pupils concerned. The Headmaster will be responsible for the pastoral care and welfare of the pupil and will maintain regular contact with the parents.
